Hull and East Yorkshire
Climate and Nature Hustings
Climate and Nature Hustings
On the 1st of May the people of Hull and East Yorkshire decided on their new joint mayor. We campaigned for the fact that whoever the public voted for, they would need a robust climate and nature action plan.
In March 2025, we jointly developed a climate action plan for the region which highlights what we are expecting from our new mayor. Summary of the ten points are below, but for the full plan click here.
Make decisions and investments that address both the global and local environmental emergency and all carbon reduction targets.
Ensure local and marginalised voices have their say and are heard in decision making
Support and encourage new green jobs, ensuring we are all protected as changes are made.
Develop zero-carbon new-build homes and developments served by easy-access transport.
Ensure all homes are energy efficient and resilient in extreme weather.
Double the number of people using public transport and increase walking and cycling as well.
Lead the development of a local area energy plan
More trees, nature and green spaces for us all to enjoy
Lead the development of a circular economy strategy- we must ensure reduce, reuse and recycle is at the heart of what we do.
Develop and implement a sustainable regional food action plan (along side existing plans)
On the 22nd April between 7.00 and 8.30 PM we held a climate and nature focused hustings. We invited all of the candidates in the area to come along and give their perspective on nature and climate issues. Disappointingly, some parties declined to attend (or just ignored our invitation outright!) yet it was a fantastically attended event and helped inform local voters. Here's the video!
