We're on a mission to inject more creativity into climate campaigning. We know that arts and culture play an ever increasing role in climate and nature campaigning... and that 'Ull folk love a bit o' culture.
We have close relationships with some local climate artists and organsiations - including The Critical Fish and Hull Culture Declares Emergency - and want to continue supporting the good work that our diverse, local creative green community do.
We are thrilled to have been awarded £17k by the National Lottery Communities Grant for an exciting grassroots arts project celebrating all things tree! This project will see hundreds of residents engage, bring countless local organisations together and a highly exciting arts, science and conservation programme across Hull and East Riding. We will be launching in April 2026 - watch this space!
2026-27
HERFoE gave £450 funding to local arts organisation The Critical Fish to support their creative arts exhibition and publication The Critical Fish Trail, an art and science response to Gordon Young’s ‘Fish Trail’ in Hull. This project highlighted the importance and wonder of sea life and the sea, through the lens of 41 ‘fish’ on the trail and their 56 creative responses, presented alongside marine science about each species.
Autumn 2025
After months of campaigning for the Right to a Healthy Environment, we were awarded a small pot of funding by National Friends of the Earth to produce a beautiful little digital and printed publication. This zine contains poetry and images collected from the Hull and East Riding community about how much we love our lands, waters, air and trees.
Spring 2025
We took over Queen Victoria Square and turned it into a sh*t beach to protest sewage in our public waterways. Through street performance, we gathered public support for a new Environmental Rights Act, forcing industrial polluters to clean up water and stop the likes of Yorkshire Water from dumping tonnes of untreated sewage into the sea.
Summer 2024
We partnered with Rights Community Action and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to commission local artist Lauren Saunders to co-create a magical 'Shorelines' public installation alongside young refugee and asylum seeker children. This work highlights the importance of protecting green spaces to help manage flood risk, and the film documenting the project was taken to Parliament to help advocate for community decision making within climate issues.
Summer 2023
For 20+ years we have been creating a quarterly publication called ECO. It started off as a simple newsletter, but Editor Alister has transformed into a quarterly work of art since 2021. Each issue contains articles, news, reflections, recipes and so much more; we're very proud of ECO and is a true creative reflection of our passionate community.

Since April 2021.
